What Makes This Story Important?
Being Filipino in the diaspora, we often grapple with our proximity to our culture. Storytelling with children is often the easiest way to create that bridge early. I remember growing up knowing about characters like Hercules, but who are our characters? And, why do they hold such a special place in our history?
The tradition of oral storytelling was a way our ancestors passed down stories that taught us values, and how the world worked. It is through these stories that we can still identify these characters today.
There have been so many great adaptations of these characters told in comic books, fan fiction novels, etc. I want to contribute to the re-telling of these characters by sharing stories to our early-readers.
